Resilience - your inner drive to success!

“That which does not kill us makes us stronger.” – Friedrich Nietzsche, German Philosopher

Synonym of the word resilience is the ability to quickly recover from a difficult situation. My take on this term is the ability to recover from distress.

Who taught us resilience?

I could not remember someone teaching how to be resilient. It is a life skill that we acquire by observing others or listening to our inner self.

The instant example I could relate is the pain a mother endures in childbirth, the complete process from pregnancy till delivery. She does not have a choice to quit, she shall relax, manage some plan that works for her body, mentally prepare herself, go through emotional stress pre & post child birth yet she continues her journey to get her child to the world. This continuous process of enduring challenges to have the child is phenomenal and same applies to any distressful situation we go through in life or work. Resilience is about adapting to situation and not quitting.

Why resilience is important for our growth?

Resilience leads to perseverance. perseverance is our continuous effort towards success. Don't we face challenges in our continuous effort? yes, we do, that's when resilience plays vital role. Some might achieve their goal in shorter time, but for some it might take years. According to me, this is not because of lack of talent but lack of opportunity. My personal experience to taste success took a decade. All those years, I was showing up to work despite the hurdles I faced, that discipline has paved way to my passion. Never give up, keep trying from where you are now!

Key to resilience

So how do we practice to be resilient? Simple, the key to resilience is not giving up, then taking a break, then trying again, then failing, then trying again. It doesn't sound easy right? Yep, it isn't easy though. The process of recovering would take you to depression, helplessness, loneliness, hatred and many more negative things. The best way to cope the situation from my experience is surrounding ourselves with positivity, starting from friends, family, environment and everything. Because, when you fall your pessimist mind will awake and will start pull you down, so keep the environment optimistic to pass through the wave.

How to apply your Agile mindset here?

The main pillar of Agility - Empiricism could be used. Empiricism is nothing but learning from your experience. Sit back, relax! and think as how to get back based on your own life path. What went wrong previously, how to not get stuck with same old solution? Let your brain work for you and allow your heart to hibernate. In my personal opinion, the decisions taken by brain will ensure growth. I'm sure, many might feel otherwise, this opinion is based on my personal experience. (Empiricism Boss!)
