“Change can be scary, but you know what’s scarier? Allowing fear to stop you from growing, evolving, and progressing.” — Mandy Hale
About me
I'm just another techie from India who started her IT career from Infosys Mysore. Yes, that was my first job. From there I started sailing in my customized boat in IT field with personal baggage, limited recognitions & limited rewards but with a self pat on my back, I managed to complete a decade here.
To explain my Agile Journey, I will have to rewind to 2006, the time when I stepped into Engineering. Despite the fact, my lineage has served in teaching profession and I also had the passion of becoming one, somehow my teenage mind convinced me to become an Engineer. This passion was locked safely and I had to mask up as Engineer as it was my decision.
The key to the lock was found in 2015, when I embarked into Agile way of working. That's when, after nearly five long years, that too out of fear of stepping into new role, I tried upskilling internally. To my amusement, the course was a simple one and it took only two hours to complete. Why I say it was simple ? Because , I'm a person who loses interest quickly when it gets too technical. To sum up, I lived my life so far as jack of all trades and master of none !
To my surprise, I have been following Agile in my personal life unknowingly. I'm sure , many might do that too. Yes, the attributes like not focussing on bigger task, rather splitting the work into smaller chunks and completing it. Starting from academics, I'm not a person who covers a chapter at a stretch, I always prefer to complete it topic wise. Likewise, even while eating food, I will not finish my plate in a single go, I prefer to split into smaller portions with favourite curries to top. Basically absorbing the essence of what I do , bit by bit - this concept has been scaled up with some tweaks to a methodology for product delivery. Quite refreshing right !
My project then, was working in Agile methodology using scrum framework and I was recruited to replace a person who left the organization. One piece of advise, I got from my Senior Manager before stepping into the role was, the intent of Scrum Master role is not to manage people but to manage the framework. I'm currently a successful Agile mentor in my current organization, even now I keep this advise in mind and pass it to new Scrum Masters, stepping into this role. Finally after a decade, my passion is found as I now lead by example and teach my team.
Time to wrap, Yes, I found my key and I wish, my readers do find theirs and follow their passion. More than a work feeds your tummy, it should feed your heart with happiness that's when you rise.
All the Best !
Awesome girl! Hoping for more scrum tips from you 🙂
